Leopard

Hat-UO, Coat- F21, Top-Walmart, Pants-A & F, Boots-Target

I've been obsessed with Bob Dylan from the first moment that I heard "Shelter from the Storm" (which, all of these years later, is still my favorite Dylan track). Since watching Factory Girl, I've wanted a "Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat" (Edie Sedgwick was the alleged inspiration behind Dylan's song). This furry version doesn't quite match, but I think it's still a nice throwback to the era.

Mermaid's Tears

Shirt-Gap, Jeans-BDG, Necklace and Ballet Flats-Nordstrom

I'm obsessed with painting my nails, and last summer my favorite polish by far was O.P.I.'s "Mermaid's Tears." Since I've been at school, the sea-foam green has felt like a tie to home. I've never been one for a lot of color, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a pair of jeans that matched my nail polish, and a necklace to tie it all together. When combined, I feel like the details add a nice kick to a classic outfit.

Winter Coat

Coat-Zara, Skirt-UO, Tights-Macy's, Shoes-Payless

The weather has been really lovely lately. Not too cold, but definitely still coat weather. I'm going to miss this in three months when I'm back at home burning to death in California.

Fur Hat

Trench Coat-J.Crew, Pants-BDG, Boots-Hunter, Hat-UO

I have a mild obsession with putting things on my head. And by mild, I mean slightly out of control. My dream is to go to a wedding in the U.K.--it seems to be perfectly acceptable to wear what resembles a solar system model on your head. On a smaller scale, I love winter because you can wear a fur hat and sort of get a way with it. One day I'd like to go to Russia and fit in with the crowd of fellow fur-hat devotees. Until then, I have to to substitute Brigham Square for Red Square. до свидания!

A Little Princess

Coat-F21, Dress-UO, Cardigan-H&M, Jeans-Paige Premium, Hat-Target, Boots-Target

My roommate told me I looked like Sara from "A Little Princess" when I she saw me. I guess I do have a little bit of that chimney-sweeping vibe. I watched that movie all the time when I was younger. Besides being a truly delightful movie, A Little Princess also has a really great soundtrack. And those girls really knew how to rock sausage curls.

Here's the classic "Please stop harassing me with your horn and please don't be someone I know" face:

Rain Drops Are Fallin' On My Head

Jacket-Zac Posen for Target, Pants-Jolt via Nordstrom, Boots-Hunter

I used to be one of those I-love-the-rain-but-I'll-stay-inside-thank-you-kindly girls. Any rainy day meant I could be found curled up on my couch with tea and a good book while listening to the lovely sound of raindrops. However, since I've invested in a rain jacket, rain boots, and a few umbrellas, nothing is more joyous to me then walking outside in the rain. The pure happiness of being able to splash through puddles is worth even the awkwardness of my big hair. Plus, my umbrella features a Degas painting. Could there be a better excuse for heading outside?

Looking Up

Blazer-Gap, Sweater-Gap, Skirt-Silence & Noise, Earrings-Urban Outfitters, Booties-Classiques Entier via Nordstrom

This hasn't exactly been the best week. My anxiety has been building to the breaking point as I reconsider the direction I've been heading towards and try to figure out what I'm supposed to do with my life. Then today one of my roommate's bell peppers broke open when I was drawing it, the strap on my school bag snapped, and I couldn't focus in my figure drawing class. I can judge my moods by what I eat; today I ate half of a king-sized chocolate bar, four potatoes, half a box of Honey Bunches of Oats (family size box), and six slice of toast. Yeahhhhh.

It's the little things that are keeping me sane, it's the little things I have to focus on. I'm grateful that the weather is beautiful. I'm grateful for feather earrings. I'm grateful that my grandmother always knows what to say. I'm grateful that I have roommates that make me laugh. Hallelujah and amen.

New Earrings

I've never been a big jewelery person. I usually prefer jewelery that is quiet and has some meaning, like the tiny turtle earrings my grandparents bought me when we were in Hawaii. However, when I saw these I couldn't resist. I have a thing for the 60s, and these big, chunky clip-ons are perfect: one part Mad Men, one part Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Tree Hugger

Shirt-Gap, Sweater-J. Crew, Trousers-Kimchi Blue, Heels-Christian Louboutin

Because the tree and I compliment each other nicely. And aren't all vegetarians tree huggers?

Also, posing for pictures never gets any less weird or embarrassing:

I pulled hair inspiration from 1960s-era Brigitte Bardot (A time period that also inspired my hair for senior prom. What can I say? It was a great time for fashion, beauty, music and art). It put me in the mood for some yé-yé music. Here are my must-haves:

"Tous les garçons et les filles" by Françoise Madeleine Hardy
"Poupée de cire, poupée de son" by France Gall
"La Plus Belle pour aller danser" by Sylvie Vartan
"Moi je joue" by Brigitte Bardot

Windy

Dress-Andersen & Lauth, Jacket-bought in Paris, Tights-F21, Boots-Dolce Vita

One normal picture? Success!

I bought this jacket the first time I went Europe, the summer after my sophomore year. I had been wanting a leather jacket for a long time, but I couldn't find one that I liked that was also in my price range, a good fit, and faux (as in, one hundred percent animal friendly). Then I randomly came across this while my friends and I were window shopping. Not only did it fit all my qualifications, but it holds a lot of good memories of my favorite city in the world.

The Great Gatsby

"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."

I first read The Great Gatsby the summer before my senior year of high school. I was hooked from the first page; I've read it at least once every summer since. I'm not a big sweatshirt person, but as soon as I saw a picture of this one I had to hunt it down. The fact that it feels like a blanket is another plus--it's probably my favorite thing in my closet.

Friday Chambray

Shirt-J.Crew, Cardigan-H & M, Jeans-BDG, Shoes-Sperry Topsiders, Necklace-F21

I've been wanting a chambray button-up for the longest time, so needless to say when this came last night I was a bit giddy. Some other things that have made me happy lately: finding the film from my New York trip, the sky yesterday (and the fact that it's still warm enough for me to take my nightly walks), and macaroni and cheese + peas (As a vegetarian college student, it's become a staple in my diet. Who knew I'd miss it?). Also, I did a classic "A Musician Named Gob" performance for my roommates last night, which ended with me wearing a false mustache and lighting it on fire. Good times.
